 Cancelled flight refund rules 

  •  Involuntary returns (if BA cancels the flight).

    • will get a refund on the portion of your tickets that has not been used. British Airways will issue a refund for the total amount you paid, including any surcharges, fees, taxes, and other charges.

    • If you've only used part of your ticket during your trip, the amount that will be refunded is the difference between the total price and the use portion.

    • If your flight ticket is canceled for any reason other than those listed above, you can get a full refund of your ticket fare plus any charges, surcharges and fees. You may also receive a service fee and cancellation fee (if applicable).

    • If you are a member of a group that used your ticket for travel, the refund amount will equal the difference between total fare paid and the portion of the fare you used while you were there. You can also cancel or pay a service fee.

  •  General Refund conditions 

    • Non-refundable tickets cannot voluntarily be cancelled. The amount that can be refunded for non-refundable tickets are limited to the amount paid in refundable taxes and fees. A travel voucher may be issued for future travel if you can prove you have been forced to cancel your ticket because of events beyond your control.

    • All refunds must be made in accordance with the fare rules or conditions that apply to and are included in your booking.

    • Unless stated otherwise, any refunds will only be given to the person who bought the ticket.

    • It is necessary to be able show that you have paid for it.

    • If you need a refund you must return the ticket with all unused flight coupons.

    • You must cancel all non-flight tickets, such as hotel accommodations, car rentals, etc.

 British Airways Cancellation Procedure for Specific Travel Dates 

You can cancel any of the following tickets by redeeming a Travel Coupon which is valid until April 30, 20,23.

  • Book your tickets by March 3, 2020 for travel before February 28, 2021.

  • For travel before April 30, 2022, tickets available beginning March 3, 2020 and ending after that date.

Contact the travel agent to cancel a ticket you have purchased.

 Important Points to Remember 

  • Your travel vouchers may be used to partly or fully purchase your new airline ticket.

  • You must submit your trip (i.e. the departure as well as the return) before April 30, 2023.

  • Within 7 business days of the application, vouchers are sent electronically.

  • You can cancel the trip online via Manage My Booking. Alternatively, you can call British Airways to ask them for cancellation. British Airways can cancel or modify your booking if you change both your travel dates and your destination.

  • If you booked directly through a travel agent

  • You can fill out this form to apply online for a voucher for travel.

 British Airways 24-Hour Cancellation Policy  

British Airways' 24-hour cancellation policies allow you to cancel your ticket within 24hrs of purchase. A full refund will be given if your travel date is less than one week after purchase. The policy of risk-free cancellation applies to all fares except non-refundable tickets.

 British Airways Cancellation Procedure Due to Death/Severe Illness 

British Airways cancels flights dues the death or serious illness of passengers, immediate family members, or close relatives.

  • The passenger must present documentary proof of illness (medical certification) or death(death certificate).

  • In the case of illness, the validity time of the ticket can be extended.

  • The ticket's validity period will be extended by not more than 45 days in the event of the death of a family member.

British Airways compensation policy is applicable to BA flights to/from European Union Airports and in some cases flights landing outside the European Union.

This policy allows you to claim compensation for any delay in your flight of more than 3 hours.

  • EUR250 if you fly less than 1500km

  • EUR400 when your flight within Europe is longer than 1500km

  • EUR400 if your flight is between 1500-3500km

  • EUR600 - for flights not listed above (i.e. more than 3500km)

    

If you are offered a different flight with the same departure and arrival time, compensation will not apply.

  • BA can inform you of cancellation up to 7-13 days prior departure. Your new flight departs approximately 2 hours before the original departure, and lands at your final destination not more than 4hours after the original arrival.

  • BA will inform you if the cancellatio n is received less than 7 business days before departure. The new flight departs approximately 1 hour prior the original departure times and lands at the final destination no more then 2 hours after your original arrival time.

Note. BA will reduce you compensation by 50%. However, the new flight's time of arrival at the destination airport does not exceed the original flight.

  • Flying within 1500km takes approximately 2 hours

  • 3 hours for flights greater than 1500km within EU

  • Other flights between 1500-3500km will take approximately 3 hours

  • 4 hours for flights not mentioned above

 Claim Expenses and Compensation 

British Airways will cover the costs of any cancellations or delays to your flight.

  • Hotel accommodation (if relevant).

  • Transportation costs between the airport/hotel (if applicable).

  • Meals and refreshments

  • 2 phone calls/internet charges.

 How to claim expenses 

If you are submitting a claim for compensation, you will need to provide:

  • The names of passengers who have claimed reimbursement.

  • Information on the flight details of any cancelled or delayed flights.

  • Support your claim by providing details and receipts (scanned/original)
    Online submissions of scanned receipts are possible. Hard copies can be sent via post.

  • You bank details are required for the payment to be processed.

Do not forget that you are not entitled to compensation if:

  • You (or your agent) were notified about the cancelled flight at minimum 14 days before your travel day.

  • Your flight delays by less than three hours

  • If you plan to travel from a new departure point or to change your destination, you should claim all expenses related to hiring a car or parking.

  • BA is not responsible for the unexpected circumstances that affected your flight.

 British Airways Cancellation Rebate Policy--Points You Should Remember 

British Airways must either refund your entire ticket price or redirect you to the next available flight if your flight is cancelled by British Airways. How long can British Airways take for me to get my refund ?

British Airways tickets purchased in the United States directly with credit cards will be processed within 7 days after receiving the application. However it may take upto 2 billing cycles before your credit card statement reflect this. Tickets purchased with a check are returned within 20 business days of receipt.

 Are I eligible for a British Airways refund? 

If you meet the following conditions, British Airways will give you a full credit for any booking.
